Can too much chlorine make my pool water cloudy?

Too much chlorine in your swimming pool water can cloud it and reduce the delicate pH balance. Using too much of any pool chemical can also cause cloudy water. High pH, high chlorine, and high alkalinity are all possible culprits.

Bring a water sample to your local pool store so that they can run all the tests. Over the years, the constant addition of chemicals can over-saturate your water (TDS-Total Dissolved solids), so a controlled partial drain and adding fresh water may clear things up. Another thing to consider is too much stabilizer from using a lot of chlorine over time. Have your pool professional check this as well. This is more common with cartridge filter systems because water is not backwashed out like with sand/D.E. systems. But cloudy water is most often due to pool filtration and your chemicals being out of whack.
